Bulldogs bring ‘sneaky good’ potential

With six returning starters taking to the diamond for Wheaton this season, Bulldogs Baseball Coach Tucker Dermott said this year is one of the most promising for his squad to be “sneaky good.” Excited for Wheaton’s positional and lineup versatility, as well as its pitching depth and experience, Dermott said the Bulldogs have a lot of players up for spots who can play anywhere. “Being a small team in the past, I’ve had to make it work because of our lack of depth,” he said.

DNR: PFAS may be present in sludge

There is still time for public comments to be submitted in response to the DNR’s proposed permits for the application of human biosolids from Arkansas and slaughterhouse-sludge from inside and outside of Missouri to Barry County farmland. If approved, permits proposed by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will initially allow the application of the waste materials to some 9,800 acres in the county.

Barry County Sheriff’s Office calls for service and reports taken

March 11-17 The Barry County Sheriff's Office responded to 232 calls for service for the week of March 11-17. The CAD events created by central dispatch are the Calls for Service Barry County Officers respond to every day, included in those calls are alarms, assaults, burglaries, domestic disturbances, DWI's, stealing, harassment, medical issues, paper service, prisoner transports, suspicious persons, traffic stops and warrant service. Reports are not generated on all the calls for service. The following reports were generated from the above 232 calls:

The Barry-Lawrence County Development Center in Monett will host a 50th Anniversary Celebration and open house at its new facility, located at 220 Chapell Drive, on April 6 from 1-5 p.m. People may tour the new debt-free building and playground.

County’s bailiffs honored for service

Employees of multiple offices at the Barry County Judicial Center gathered Friday to recognize the men who serve as the face of the building and the protection in the courtroom. The Center’s three bailiffs — Dave Ruark, Michael Morris and Mike Bailey — were treated to a surprise luncheon honoring their service at the facility.

Nude man breaks into home

A Cassville man is facing seven felony charges after allegedly breaking into a Barry County home and assaulting two people while in the nude. Kory Hilburn, 19, of Cassville, is charged with first-degree assault (attempted murder), first-degree burglary, abuse of a child, two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
