The Cassville Democrat newspaper is once again the best small weekly newspaper in Missouri, accepting its seventh Gold Cup in 10 years on Saturday in Springfield. Kyle Troutman, owner and publisher of the Democrat, said hearing the paper’s name announced as Gold Cup winner was a powerful moment.
Purdy Council delays water bill action
The Purdy City Council opted to delay tightening the screws on water and sewer customers behind on their bills one more month. During the September council meeting, Clerk Katy Prock reported no significant changes or confrontations stemmed from the August decision to crack down on approximately 70 utility customers who have run up close to $12,000 in unpaid bills.

The Cassville cross country teams competed in Monett and in Willard last week, with the Lady Wildcats producing third-place and runner-up finishes. In Monett, the girls were third, boys fifth, middle school girls second and middle school boys third.

40 YEARS AGO: NOT FLAGGED — A violation for delay of game Friday night drew no flag....instead an official escorted (better still carried) the offender off the field. It was one of the dogs that frequent the CHS campus. The whistle-toater (instrument in mouth) carried the friendly pooch off the field, necessitating a delay in the contest that was not chargeable as a violation to either team.
