Tigers have Ozark 7 Conference title in sights

The Exeter baseball team is enjoying another successful season, on the brink of a possible fourth straight Ozark 7 championship and hoping to chase a trophy in the six-team Class 1, District 5 tournament coming up. Matt Tripp, Exeter baseball coach, said the Tigers who have two district title match appearances in the last three seasons, have played inspired ball this season, continuing to improve as the season progresses.

Wildcats drop a dozen strokes at tourney

The Cassville boys golf team played through chilly and windy weather at its home tournament on Thursday, yet the Wildcats still managed to drop 12 strokes from their previous tournament’s team score. Jay Rogers, Cassville golf coach, said the Wildcats placed 6th out of the 18 schools at the Cassville Tournament, which saw more than 80 individual participants. Freshman Cheney Kelley posted the low score for the Wildcats with an 87, two strokes away from the top 10 finishers.

Southwest off and running

Only five meets into the season, Southwest’s track team began to see personal records fall. Led by seniors Robert Humphries, Kameron Kelley and Juliauna Sierra, the Trojans and Lady Trojans have lofty goals this year, hoping to use its strengths in distance running to reach the state meet in May.

Scoreboard, April 10

The Cassville girls track team ran in two meets last week, taking second place as a team in the Monett meet and fifth place in Pea Ridge. Thrower Aaliiyah Franklin showed well in both meets, taking first place in shot put and second in discus in Monett, then swapped results with a first place in discus and second in shot put in Pea Ridge.

‘A great way to end it’

Cassville senior Madison Halterman wrapped up her prep basketball career at SWMO All-Star Saturday game at Mission University in Springfield on March 23. Unaware she was entered into the 3-point shooting contest, Halterman had been sitting in the stands when her name was called to shoot.

Trojans bring strength on the mound

The Southwest baseball team will rely on its pitching to produce another winning season, hoping to stay healthy and make a run more district hardware for Trojans athletics this year. Derek Mann, Southwest baseball coach, said the Trojans were hit hard by injuries at the start of last season, going 1-9 in their first 10 but finishing 13-11 overall.

Wildcats speed into season

The Cassville boys track team is shifting its focus some this year, going from a distance running team to one more adept at sprinting and throwing. Clay Weldy, Cassville boys track coach, said 11 Wildcats return to the team this year, and 14 have joined.
