There’s secrecy afoot in the Missouri legislature. Proposed Missouri Senate Bill 157 and House Bill 545 seek to conceal from the public the identities of “Major Water Users” in Missouri, as well as the amount of water they use, where they’re drawing it from and where the water will be distributed.

Purdy Council orders action on unpaid water bills
The Purdy City Council authorized a massive shut-off of water services to unpaid customers during its August meeting. Clerk Katy Prock, noting council members discussed raising water rates, presented a list of 72 customers with water bills in arrears, representing 15 percent of the customer base and a total of $12,031.32 in overdue bills.
Garden, pool meters now available in Cassville
The City of Cassville is renewing a service to more accurately bill sanitary sewer usage for residents with substantial outdoor water usage. Residents may check out a separate water meter to attach to a hose bib or yard hydrant to record water use that does not enter the sanitary sewer system.

Missouri residents – Southwest Missouri residents, in particular — the quality of our drinking and recreational water is under attack. At a public hearing in Jefferson City Tuesday morning, witnesses for and against Senate Bill 981 were in attendance to present their testimony regarding the bill, which proposes to exclude the phrase “all subsurface waters” from Missouri’s current definition of “Waters of The State.” The change would affect the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) ability to protect our groundwater.
